Major Airline Is Hiring Locally And Has Great Perks

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — In the past several years, CBS2 has been first to show you Southland companies putting people back to work.

Companies like Sit 'n Sleep, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Whole Foods, Home Depot, Directv and more. Now, a major airline is looking for workers.

From the first-class section of an American Airlines Airbus A320, Juan Carlos Liscano describes the airline's LAX growth spurt, including 220 flights a day this summer to 70 destinations, and they need help now for customer service, maintenance, flight attendants, pilots and more.

"But it isn't just about growing. To be able to take care of our customers and our airplanes, we need employees to do that," Liscano said.

More than 200 new employees are needed right now, employees like Cindy Lang, who's been with the company nearly 40 years.

"It's an amazing company to work for," Lang said, describing the company's generous medical benefits, flexible hours, 401(k) and free flights. That's right, free flights.

"When you get to see the look on someone's face in Hawaii or Tahiti," Lang said, "it's such a great experience to share with other people."

Lang says she gets to concentrate on customers, and she filled us in on the secrets.

"My best situation is someone heated, ready to tear into you," she said. "Be able to listen to what they have to say, be able to react quickly to solve the problem, make that person realize they're happy with the result."

Experience isn't needed for every position, but energy and enthusiasm are a must. Just go to aa.com/careers and prepare for takeoff.
