Residents Escape Condo Fire In La Verne

LA VERNE (CBS/AP) — Los Angeles County authorities say all residents managed to escape after fire erupted at a condo complex in La Verne.

County crews were deployed to help city firefighters after the blaze was reported at the two-story structure at 3014 Winfield Avenue early Tuesday.

Resident Jude Baroudi said his wife woke him around 2:30 a.m., saying she smelled smoke. The couple got their two young kids out and alerted their neighbors in the four-unit complex.

Officials say all residents were able to get out and no injuries were reported. Five adults and three children were displaced.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimate was immediately released.
