Reward Offered For Information In Hit-And-Run That Killed Mother, 27

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A $50,000 reward was offered Sunday in hopes of generating tips leading to the hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of a 27-year-old mother.

Korina Campos was killed after being struck by a 2001 Toyota Corolla that was traveling southbound on Boyle Avenue Saturday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The LAPD says Campos' car was parked along Boyle Avenue just north of Whittier Boulevard and she was struck as she was attempting to remove her 5-year-old from the car.

"Prior to the collision, the driver of the Toyota lost control of his car as he attempted to negotiate a turn in the roadway," the LAPD wrote in a news release. "The suspect's car rotated in a clockwise direction, striking Korina and her daughter."

Police said the driver of the Toyota abandoned his car at the scene and fled southbound on Boyle Avenue.

He was described by police as a 30-year-old Hispanic man and is believed to have been injured.

Campos was taken to the hospital where she died.

Her daughter sustained severe injuries and was also taken to the hospital. She is expected to recover, police said.

Those with more information were asked to contact detectives with the LAPD Central Traffic Division at (213) 833-3713, Det. Felix Padilla at (213) 486-0753, or the Central Traffic Division Watch Commander at (213) 833-3746.
