LA City Council Votes To Rename Street Near Dodger Stadium After Vin Scully

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to rename a street near Dodger Stadium after Vin Scully, who has been the voice of the Dodgers for 66 years.

With current and former Dodgers personnel looking on, the council voted 12-0 to rebrand Elysian Park Avenue between Sunset Boulevard and Stadium Way as "Vin Scully Avenue."

Former Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda, former Dodger stars including Steve Garvey, Orel Hershiser, Maury Wills and Eric Karros, new Dodger manager Dave Roberts and 17 active players, including pitcher Clayton Kershaw and outfielder Yasiel Puig, were on hand to attend the council meeting to support the motion, which was introduced by Councilman Gil Cedillo.

"There's no better way to recognize such an iconic Dodger as Hall of Famer Vin Scully than naming a street after him," Dodgers President Stan Kasten said. "We appreciate Gil Cedillo and city officials bringing this to the forefront and we look forward to the day when everyone can drive on Vin Scully Avenue when they enter Dodger Stadium."

The visit by the Dodger contingent to City Hall is part of their week of service tour in the Los Angeles area, dubbed by the team as the "Dodgers Love L.A. Tour."

The 88-year-old Bronx-born Scully has announced Dodger games since 1950, when the team played in Brooklyn. He said in August that the 2016 season likely will be his last.
