High Surf Expected Along Beaches Ahead Of Weekend Storm System Moving Into SoCal

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A warm and sunny Friday across the Southland is expected to bring high surf to local beaches ahead of a weekend of rain and potential extreme weather.

High surf between 8 and 12 feet is expected in Los Angeles County and a high surf warning will be in effect until 3 a.m. Saturday. A similar advisory in Orange County is scheduled to expire at 10 p.m. Saturday.

The region could see some light rain Saturday night followed by heavier precipitation Sunday, possibly accompanied by furious winds, some roadway flooding, and some mud and debris flows down slopes stripped bare by wildfires.

"There is the potential for brief heavy rain with the cold front on Sunday, capable of producing local roadway flooding as well as minor mud and debris flows in recent burn areas," according to the National Weather Service.

Rainfall totals resulting from the approaching Pacific storm are expected to range between a half-inch and an inch in much of the area, with one to two inches in the mountains and foothills, according to the National Weather Service.

After Sunday, however, there is no rain in the near-term forecast.
