LAKE LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  Authorities said a woman changing a flat tire on the side of a road in the Antelope Valley was hit by a passing car and was near death Sunday.

The 28-year-old woman, a resident of Palmdale, was rushed to Antelope Valley Hospital. The victim is listed in grave condition, according to a CHP report.

The woman was on the side of the road on 240th Street East, south of Avenue O, when a northbound blue 1999 GMC Suburban hit her around 7 p.m. Saturday.

A 22-year-old man standing near her was also hit, but survived with only pain in his leg.

The driver of the Suburban is a 47-year-old woman who was not drunk, the CHP said. She was not arrested and no citations were reported.
