Registered Offender, 28, Accused Of Sexually Assaulting 2 Teens In Whittier

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com)   —   Authorities in Whittier said a registered sex offender is now behind bars after being accused of sexually assaulting two female teens.

Whittier Police Detectives on Friday arrested 28-year-old Richie Esquivel Corvera, a registered sex offender and resident of Whittier. His alleged victims are ages 14 and 15, police said.

Authorities said on Jan. 20, around 9 a.m., Corvera was in the parking lot of Sierra Vista High School where he encountered a 15-year-old female. He allegedly persuaded the girl to get into his car. Police said he drove her to a local motel and committed a sexual assault.

Officials said the next day, around 1 p.m., the suspect again contacted a 14-year-old while parked in the same school's parking lot. He persuaded the teen to get into his car and drove her to a motel where police said another sexual assault occurred.

Both teens informed school officials of the alleged sexual assaults on Friday and the Whittier Police Department was immediately notified.

Detectives carried out an extensive investigation throughout the day, which resulted in the identification of Corvera as the suspect. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the 10600 block of Scott Avenue at 9 p.m.. As part of the investigation, detectives also served a search warrant at a house in the 10300 block of Parise Drive in Whittier.

Corvera was booked at the Whittier Police Department Jail on two charges of rape by force or fear and for violation of probation. He is currently in custody with a "no bail" status and is due to be arraigned in Bellflower Court on Tuesday.

Detectives are concerned that there are additional victims. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Whittier Police Department at (562) 567-9255.
