Ad Campaign Depicting Little Boy With Gun Aims To Raise Awareness Of New Gun Storage Law

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — "Never let your gun get in the wrong hands."

That's the message of a new ad campaign that depicts a little boy pointing a gun.

The photo and its powerful caption were displayed on a few city buses in Los Angeles Thursday, but will soon be on hundreds.

The ad campaign is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice in partnership with the city.

It comes on the heels of a new city law that requires all handgun owners to store their guns in a locked box or disabled with a trigger lock.

Failure to do so could give rise to a misdemeanor charge.

The hope with this campaign is to convince gun owners to keep their handguns away from children before the law is broken.

"It is a scary image," said Jeff Bregman, the owner of American Gunworks in Glendale.

He is an outspoken gun advocate who supports this gun safety ad campaign.

"They're showing, 'Don't let this happen to you,' " he said. "Don't let an accident be created."

Bregman said the message signifies both the importance of gun safety as well as protecting the innocence of youth.
