Voice Of SpongeBob's Crabby Neighbor Squidward Faces DUI Charge

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — The actor who voices SpongeBob SquarePants' crabby neighbor Squidward faces a possible DUI charge Wednesday after being arrested in Burbank.

Rodger Bumpass, 64, of Burbank was taken into custody about 11 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of South Fairview Street, Burbank police Sgt. Claudio Losacco said.

He was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and released the following morning after posting $15,000 bail. No court date was scheduled.

"Officers were notified about a vehicle stopped in the middle of the street and arrived to find a blue PT Cruiser stopped in the middle of the street and a man leaning against the car," Losacco said in a statement.

The officers reported that the man walked away as they approached and that he was very unsteady on his feet and nearly fell.

"The man ... displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication," Losacco said. "He was unable to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety tests and ultimately (was) arrested for DUI.

"He later submitted to a breath test, which showed his (blood alcohol content) was substantially over the legal limit of .08 percent," Losacco said. "Bumpass admitted to driving to the location and said he was trying to get home."

According to his IMDB page, Bumpass' voice acting careers stretches back to the 1980s and includes characters in "Monsters, Inc.," "Toy Story 2," and "Cars," in addition to the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise.
