Gloves Come Off In 'Bare' Knuckles Battle Between Huntington Beach, Group Of Naturists

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — No clothes? No more parties.

That's the word handed down by Huntington Beach officials to a group of naturists who for years rented a city gym and indoor pool for private events.

"We're tax-paying citizens. We're people that have jobs. We're just normal, everyday people and we just happen to enjoy a recreational swim in a safe environment," said Marcia Natelborg, a naturist.

Tuesday night, at the council meeting, some members of the group protested administrative regulation 704 that was implemented in September.

It prohibits nudity at recreation facilities although the city attorney says a law has been on the books for years.

The city attorney says there have been a few incidents involving city staff at the pool and gym during naturist events which caused officials to enforce the anti-nudity ordinance.

"I was told that there was some sort of an issue and the next thing I know in the mail we get a letter saying that they've adopted this new regulation, administrative regulation 704, that prohibits nudity in public facilities," said Allen Baylis, the president of Naturists in the O.C.

The city attorney wouldn't disclose specific examples of problems at the parties.

But the group says it's being discriminated against and may take legal action.
