Iceland Airline Flies Into LAX With Rock-Bottom Fares, But There Is A Catch

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) – An Iceland-based airline has landed at Los Angeles International Airport, and it is celebrating with some incredibly low fares to Europe.

CEO and founder Skuli Mogensen said he named it WOW Air because if he tells people they can travel from LAX to Iceland for as low as $99 one way, they would say wow!

WOW, founded in 2011, will offer those $99 fares in their new Airbus A330s from LAX and San Francisco to Iceland starting in June. Trips to other European destinations like London and Frankfurt will go for as low as $199 dollars one-way.

"We are really pioneering the low-cost model for long-haul flights," Mogensen touted.

The one-way flights may be low, but fees are not. A larger carry-on costs $48 each way. Checked bags are $67 each way.

While flying to Iceland may be cheap, finding a low-cost return flight requires patience and flexibility.

Mogenson said he created WOW so everyone can afford to travel. "If we are able to essentially create a smaller world by allowing more people to see and experience new cultures, that would be fantastic."

WOW will offer four flights a week from Los Angeles starting June 15.
