Police Pursue 'Armed And Dangerous' Suspect Around Southland

SOUTH GATE (CBSLA.com)   —  Police are chasing an "armed and dangerous" suspect on surface streets around South Gate and Wilmington.

The suspect is in a four-door black SUV.

The vehicle is reportedly registered in Bellflower. Police would not say if the vehicle was stolen.

Officers have been advised that a weapon of some kind was used in a prior unspecified crime.

After about 20 minutes the suspect was in Torrance driving on surface streets.

The suspect drove slowly and methodically during most of the chase. He got on the 110 South in Carson but still maintained a relatively slow speed.

Police reportedly know who the suspect is.

The unidentified driver pulled over while driving through Avalon for unknown reasons. At least six patrol cars pulled up right behind him and ordered him to put his hands out the window.

Police with guns drawn ordered the man out of the vehicle. He went to the ground and surrendered with his hands up.

The chase lasted about an hour.
