Police: Botched Pot Deal Allegedly Led To Fatal Shooting Of Teen In Marina Del Rey

MARINA DEL REY (CBSLA.com)  —  Officials say a teen who was fatally shot in Marina del Rey Wednesday evening while she sat in a vehicle outside a strip mall was the victim of a drug deal gone sour.

Authorities said Kristine Carman was with her older sister and the sister's boyfriend when they set up an online deal to sell two pounds of marijuana.

The suspected shooter allegedly tried to rip them off when a argument and fight ensued.

What happened at the strip mall at Glencoe and Maxella has shattered a family forever. Carman was shot and killed by a man who is still on the loose. Carman was visiting from Texas – staying with her big sister…

Tonight Carman's father spoke with KCAL9's Tom Wait from Houston. He says he has barely begun to process the reality of what unfolded.

"It's still too raw for that, you know. There's a lot of pain. I don't know what else I can say about that," said John Carman.

Investigators told Wait the boyfriend was trying to sell the pot -- the suspected buyer tried to rip him off. Carman says his older daughter is so upset she hasn't told him everything.

"My daughter is inconsolable right now. It's hard to understand what she's saying," he said.

Whatever happened, a 17-year-old's dreams are gone forever.

"She had been out there just about a week, she wanted to attend UCLA. And then this happened," Carman said.

He hopes the public will help track down his daughter's killer.

"Please, if anyone who has any information, please come forward," he said, choking back tears.

Detectives are still trying to determine if security video exists of the incident.
