Man Killed, 3 Critically Injured In Boyle Heights Traffic Collision

BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities were investigating a deadly traffic collision Thursday that took place in Boyle Heights.

The crash occurred around 10 p.m. on Wednesday located in the area of East Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and North Mission Road, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Upon their arrival, paramedics located a male driver partially ejected from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Officials transported three other victims to a hospital in critical condition. An update on their conditions was not immediately available.

A preliminary investigation revealed the male driver traveled at a high rate of speed on North Mission Road at the time of the crash.

Firefighters said it appears he made a left-hand turn in front of another driver and subsequently struck the vehicle. The force of the crash sent the second vehicle sliding across the road.

The driver who was killed then crashed into a telephone pole.

Detectives are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were factors involved in the crash.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
