DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Thursday searched for a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Downey.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities received several 911 calls reporting gun shots being fired in the 1200 block of Downey Avenue, according to the Downey Police Department.

A short time later, witnesses reported a traffic collision on Stewart near Gray and Patton.

Upon their arrival, officers located an adult man who was shot a parking lot located on Downey Avenue. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

"A description of the suspect vehicle leaving the Downey Avenue address matched a description of a vehicle involved in the traffic collision," explained Chief Carl Charles. "Witnesses of the collision observed three male subjects from a gray Toyota Yaris."

Police detained two men a short distance away from the crash. Paramedics transported one of the suspects to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. He is expected to survive. The second suspect was transported to the Downey Police Station for further questioning.
