Last-Minute Shoppers Take To The Stores To Take Advantage Of Bargains

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  As the holiday nears, more stars are trying to lure shoppers into their stores.

KCAL9's Peter Daut went in search of bargain shoppers Friday evening.

Will last minute deals lure last-minute shoppers out from the comfort of their own homes?

It's officially crunch time.

With only a week to go before christmas.. it's now or never for last-minute shoppers.

"Getting it done. I think all stores all day there's been traffic everywhere, everywhere, but I just have to be in high spirits, you know?," said Selenia Zepeda.

Especially since there are plenty of procrastinators. As of last weekend, an estimated 57 percent of consumers in the US had barely started crossing off their Christmas lists. Saturday is expected to be the busiest shopping day of the year.

((sot phil reynolds/shopper 1:07:57 "Maybe the adrenaline rush of last-minute shopping to see what you can get, kind of the fun thing," said Phil Reynolds.

Daut asked him if he liked the crowds. "No, I hate crowds," Reynolds offered.

Crowds aside, some of the season's hot-ticket items include game consoles, fitness wear, and of course...all things "Star Wars"! From clothing, to games, to talking toys -- the force is strong for retailers.

"It seems like last year it was 'Frozen,', and that was a huge thing for Disney, and this year the customers are coming out for Star Wars absolutely," said Juan Diaz, a store manager for Kohl's.

During the same weekend last year.. sales nationwide hit @23-billion, surpassing Black Friday. so this year many retailers are expanding their hours leading up to Christmas and offering deals. Kohl's, for example, is now open 24-7 until Christmas Eve.

Though there did seem to be a few Grinches in the stores, there were also some very happy shoppers. Even as young as four, Daut says.

"I come here whenever I ee something, I pick it," said Daphne Garay.

If you're thinking about doing some 'online shopping this weekend, expect to pay extra for shipping so your order arrives by Christmas.
