Public's Help Wanted To Find Hit-And-Run Driver Who Critically Injured Nun In Boyle Heights

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The public's help was sought Friday to find the motorist who severely injured a 70-year-old nun in a Boyle Heights hit-and-run crash.

Sister Raquel Diaz, Director of Religious Education at the Church of Assumption, was in the crosswalk at Winter Street and North Evergreen Avenue when she was struck about 5:20 p.m. Thursday by a black truck going southbound on North Evergeen, the LAPD said.

The truck driver continued south on Evergreen without stopping after his vehicle hit Diaz, who has been a nun for more than 50 years, police said. Paramedics took Diaz to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police had no suspect information and no arrests have been made. The suspect vehicle has been described only as a black truck.

A reward of up to $25,000 is available to community members who provide information leading up to the offender's identification, apprehension and conviction, or resolution through a civil compromise.

Central Traffic Division detectives ask that anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at (213) 833-3713.
