Registered Sex Offender Arrested On Suspicion Of Sexually Assaulting Young Girl In OC

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A Santa Ana man suspected of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, Raul Martin, 59, was arrested after allegedly committing acts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a female juvenile at a food give-a-way.

Officers said the give-a-way was held during the morning hours on Saturday, located at Davis Elementary School in the 1400 block of North Spurgeon.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim waited with her 10-year-old brother for their parents while they parked their vehicle.

During this time, Martin approached the girl, sat down next to her on a raised curb in the parking lot of the school and began a conversation.

According to police, he then touched the girl inappropriately.

A woman who was attending the event protected the victim from further assaults after she realized Martin was not related to her.

The girl's parent's were then located and police were notified of the incident.

Attendees pointed Martin out to officers who arrived at the scene, which subsequently led to his arrest.

Martin, who is a registered sex offender, is being held on a no-probation hold along with $200,000 bail at the Santa Ana Police Detention Facility for an immigration hold.

Anyone who believes they may have had inappropriate or suspicious contact with Martin has been urged to contact the Santa Ana Police Department at (714) 245-8351.
