Security Extra Tight At 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Premiere In Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — The force was strong in Hollywood Monday night, the security force that is, for the world premiere of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

Four blocks of Hollywood Boulevard were shut down while Los Angeles police made their presence felt, along with bomb-sniffing dogs and metal detectors.

Erik Mejia is with one of several private security companies working at the event. He said security was extra tight because of the terror attacks in San Bernardino and Paris. "It's for everyone's safety, public's safety as well as our own," Mejia said.

The tight security caused major traffic jams in and around the area. Actress Carrie Fisher posted a tweet on her way to the premiere.

Those who were not even going to the premiere had to walk through a metal detector.

"I'm just trying to get home, and I've to go through security just to walk down the sidewalk," one woman said.

But many said they did not mind waiting in the long line to walk through the metal detector to be on the safer side.

"You know, big event like this, security issues around the world. This is OK with me," one man said.

Hollywood Boulevard will remain closed until early Tuesday morning.
