Activists Call For End To Gun Violence During Studio City March

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Activists marched through Studio City today calling for an end to gun violence and tougher gun laws.

"We're saying, 'Why do civilians need to have the weapons that are used in military and by the police," Pam Geller, an activist.

Emma Geller at just 9 years old was one of the youngest activists to participate in the march.

"It's shooting everywhere and we don't want that to happen," she said. "I still am nervous sometimes of shooters coming into the school or my house."

The group started their rally after the massacre in Sandy Hook in 2012. On Sunday, they also remembered the victims from San Bernardino, yet another mass shooting where high capacity magazines and assault rifles made their way into the wrong hands.

It's a problem Councilmember Paul Krekorian has fought tirelessly to try to stop in part by banning those high-capacity ammunition magazines from the city of Los Angeles and mandating safe storage of guns at home.

"These unspeakable crimes that sear our souls and break our hearts and yet all we ever seem do is say, 'Oh, it's such a tragedy.' We have to take action," he said.
