Deadly Shooting Investigation Underway In LA; Suspects At Large

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives investigated a shooting Thursday that claimed the life of a man and injured another in Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, detectives were sent shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday to the 8700 block of Beach Street for report of a shooting.

Upon their arrival, authorities located two adult men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Paramedics transported both victims to a local hospital for treatment.

The first victim, described as an African American man who is 40-years-old, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

The second victim, described as an African American man who is 49-years-old, remains listed in stable condition.

"Homicide detectives learned that the first victim was seated in the passenger seat of the minivan," Deputy Trina Schrader said. "The second victim was standing outside the vehicle when the suspects approached on foot and began firing."

The suspects ran from the location in an unknown direction, deputies said.

At this time, detectives have not provided any suspect descriptions.

The investigation is ongoing.
