Girl Scouts Make Millions In Online Cookie Sales, But News Is Bittersweet

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Girl Scouts have made millions in online cookie sales this year, but the news is bittersweet.

The organization sold more than 2.5 million boxes of cookies online this year, bringing in $10 million in sales.

Overall, though, sales were down 1 million boxes from the year before. Those iconic door-to-door and sidewalk sales are disappearing.

Organizers have updated their Digital Cookie app to add a calculator for Girl Scouts to keep track of sales and organize orders.

By 2017, the organization says all Girl Scouts councils will use the digital platform.
