Firefighters Battle Brush Fire In Sylmar
SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — Fire crews on Monday were battling a 15-acre brush fire in Sylmar.
Firefighters responded to the fire at about 3:15 p.m. in the 11200 block of Wheatland Avenue.
Aerial crews in helicopters and Super Scoopers were making water drops on the blaze as dozens of firefighters also worked to tame the flames on the ground.
Agencies involved in the firefight included LA County Fire Department, LA Fire Department, Burbank Fire Department, Glendale Fire Department and the National Forest Service.
At about 4:15 p.m., the LA Fire Department said the blaze was 75-percent contained.
Stu Mandel reported from SKY9 that many of the open flames were diminishing in size as white smoke could be seen billowing into the sky.
Fire crews said at about 4:25 that the fire was knocked down. Crews remained on the scene watching for hot spots.
The LA Fire Department later said that the fire was started accidentally by construction workers grinding metal.
