Bride's Canceled Wedding Reception Gives Fancy Night To Those In Need

OXNARD (CBSLA.com)  —  A traumatic experience for one family turned into a lovely, festive evening for some folks who needed a night of dazzle.

Dozens of people in Oxnard were treated to a fancy dinner after a bride canceled her wedding reception and decided to put the money and the hall to good use.

The bride and her father wanted to remain anonymous. Because of their generosity, dozens were treated to a fancy, gourmet meal.

Instead of eating at Oxnard's Rescue Mission the group -- many of them homeless -- attended an all-expenses paid dinner at the nearby Embassy Suites Mandalay Bay, the site of the original wedding reception.

"It was a good time for us who don't normally get to have that. We're used to fast food restaurants because we can't afford anything nice," said Daniel White.

The food was already paid for -- for 150 wedding guests.

"This is a tragedy in their family. The wedding that they put thousands of dollars and all that preparation had been called off. So they're heartbroken and yet they've turned it into a blessing for 150 people who wouldn't be able to enjoy that," said Ventura County Mission Director John Saltee.

"Tto be able to go out and have some fine dining is great," said guest Robert Duncan.
