This Spotted Skunk Goes Into Defense Mode, But It's Not What You May Think

(CBSLA.com) — A skunk was spotted on a wildlife camera showing off its handstand skills.

It happened in Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona, the U.S. Department of the Interior said in an Instagram post.

"This strange interaction was captured by Saguaro's wildlife camera in Happy Valley," the government agency wrote.

The handstand, according to the agency, is meant to intimidate any would-be aggressors.

If it doesn't work, however, it's likely the skunk will then spray an unpleasant scent.

Skunks, according to the City of Los Angeles Department of Animal Services, are among some of the most successful species on the planet as they'll eat just about anything.

"These animals are classified as Carnivores and Omnivores; they will eat just about anything and to some degree they do help keep rodent and insect populations in check," the agency explained on its website.
