Suspect Allegedly Shoots Co-Worker To Death In Downtown LA Office Building

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA)   —  The LAPD says a man was fatally shot in a downtown Los Angeles garment manufacturing business  Wednesday afternoon, and his assailant -- a co-worker -- is at large.

The shooting occurred about 4:15 p.m. on the 6th floor of a building in the 100 block of E. Seventh St., in a busy area near Hill Street, said Officer Liliana Preciado of the LAPD's media relations office.

Initial reports said the unidentified victim died at the scene. Police later corrected their report and said the victim was wounded and critical. They have since said the victim is deceased.

The gunman fled on foot, the officer said.

CBS2's Amber Lee reported from the scene that the victim was shot in the left chest.

KCAL9's Tom Wait picked up the story night side and said two co-workers argued before one apparently shot the other.

Wait spoke to some dazed workers as they left the building Wednesday evening.

"We were afraid,  yeah because we have never seen something like this in this building," said Julio Nito.

He also works on the 6th floor.

"We just heard the noise and everyone screaming. something happened in the next room," Nito said.

The suspect and victim have not been identified. Police said the men got into an argument earlier in the day and the suspect left and came back with the gun.

The LAPD says both were men are 30-somethings.
