Suspect In Fatal Santa Ana Hit-And-Run Arrested After Good Samaritan Follows Him From Crash, Takes Keys

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) A good Samaritan followed a hit-and-run driver in Santa Ana on Tuesday after witnessing a crash that killed a man sitting on a curb, leading to the suspect's arrest.

The good Samaritan, Cesar Guzman of Santa Ana, followed the suspect from the scene, took the suspect's keys away and called 911, police said.

The hit-and-run took place at around 1:15 p.m. in the 800 block of McFadden Avenue.

The victim was sitting on the sidewalk outside of his group house when the witness said a gold van veered onto the sidewalk, fatally struck the man, and then continued driving.

The good Samaritan followed the driver around the corner and got him to pull over near an elementary school.

Police responded to the scene and gave the suspect a sobriety test, which police said the man failed. The suspect was then arrested.

The suspect, Ramon Horta-Jaime, 55, of Santa Ana, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

Horta-Jaime has previously been convicted of DUI and could face increased charges of second degree murder, police said.
