NASA Captures Images Of Skull-Shaped Asteroid That Flew By Earth On Halloween

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has captured detailed images of a so-called spooky asteroid that flew by Earth on Halloween.

The space agency captured the images of the skull-shaped asteroid using large Earth-based radio telescopes and antennas.

The signals pieced together images that show that the asteroid has cavities, boulders, and ridges.

Scientists say the images are the best that will ever be obtained of the asteroid because it was 300,000 miles from Earth.

The next time an asteroid is expected to fly by Earth will be in September 2018.

That asteroid is expected to be 24 million miles away.
