Owner Of OC Register Files For Bankruptcy Protection Again, KNX 1070 Reports

ORANGE (CBSLA.com) — The owner of the Orange County Register and The Press-Enterprise says the company is filing for bankruptcy protection again.

Freedom Communications Inc. says the company filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 as Rich Mirman, the CEO and publisher, begins a stalking horse bid to take over the newspapers and other remaining assets.

In a news release, Mirman says he's working with Mike Harrah, the owner of the corporate office building in Santa Ana in the take-owner, Ed Mertz of KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO reported.

The company says advertisers and subscribers will not be impacted.

Mertz says Freedom Communications last emerged from bankruptcy in 2010.

At its height in the 1990's, Mertz says Freedom Communications owned several newspapers and television stations.
