Thousands Expected To Attend Annual Halloween Carnaval Parade In WeHo

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — As many as a half-million people are expected to attend West Hollywood's annual Halloween Carnaval parade on Saturday night.

The Carnaval will take place from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., located on Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny drive and La Cienega Boulevard.

Parade-goers are expected to dress up in extremely outrageous costumes and walk down the boulevard. Those in attendance have been urged to use the hashtag "#WeHoHalloween" to document their costumes on social media.

Live entertainment will be featured in seven different areas, including bands, DJs, dancers, artists and painters.

City officials explained this year's party will pay special tribute to the 40th anniversary of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

During the festivities, Tim Curry will be named the city's honorary mayor.

Authorities have advised motorists to avoid the heart of the city as street closures will remain in effect until 6 a.m. on Sunday.

The following street closures will begin at midnight tonight:

— San Vicente Boulevard between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue

— Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny Drive and Croft Avenue/Holloway Drive

Officials added smaller streets will also remain blocked off through Halloween weekend.

City officials plan to suspend permit parking restrictions from 11 a.m. today until noon on Sunday.

Anyone who plans to attend the Carnaval tonight should carpool or use public transit. However, public parking lots will be available throughout the evening as well.

The Carnaval began in 1987 and has since turned into one of the largest Halloween bases around the world.
