WINCHESTER (CBSLA.com) — Police investigated the deaths of two pedestrians Thursday who were struck by a vehicle in Winchester.

Around 1:15 a.m., a group of adults and teens left a party where a physical altercation had occurred between one of the teens and an unknown person, according to California Highway Patrol officers.

“The group rendered aid to the teen who had been assaulted,” explained Sgt. Daniel Temple. “A vehicle driving in the area accidentally struck the teen and the group of people helping the injured teen. As a result, two people were killed.”

Upon their arrival, officers located both victims in the 31700 block of Scott Road.

Paramedics pronounced the victims dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld pending family notification.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

Detectives said neither alcohol nor drugs played a factor in the crash.

No other injuries were reported.
