1 Good Samaritan Killed, 2 Others Critically Injured In 170 Freeway Off-Ramp Crash
NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — One person has been killed and two others were critically injured after being struck by a car while stopping to help another driver in North Hollywood, authorities said.
The crash Thursday was reported at the northbound 170 Freeway at the Sherman Way off-ramp about 12:15 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
Authorities said three men in a Chevy had stopped to assist a driver whose vehicle had caught fire. Just alongside the fire scene, two cars, including a Camry, got into a collision.
The CHP says the Camry's driver swerved and slammed into the trio. One of the three was killed instantly. Paramedics took two critically injured people to hospitals for treatment, Humphrey said.
The driver of the Camry then jumped the median and continued about 100 yards up the Sherman Way off-ramp.
The CHP says one of the Good Samaritans landed on the Camry's hood and stayed there as the driver careened up the ramp. The driver of the Camry was taken from the scene with moderate injuries and is
expected to be questioned.
The ages of the deceased and the two injured patients were not disclosed.
