NASA Says Orionid Meteor Shower Will Peak This Week
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The National Aeronautics and Space Administration an Orionid meteor will peak this week.
"The Orionids will probably show weaker activity than usual this year," says Bill Cooke of the NASA Meteoroid Environments Office at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.
Cooke said "bits of comet dust hitting the atmosphere will probably give us about a dozen meteors per hour."
The space agency says the best time to look for the meteors will be just before sunrise on Thursday. A live stream will also be available. For more information, click here.
The annual event is visible without a telescope, NASA says.
According to the Griffith Observatory, the meteors will peak between Oct. 21 and 22, and conditions will be favorable at 12:31 a.m. PDT. For more information, click here.
