Suspect Steals Car With 7-Month-Old Child Asleep In The Backseat

SANTA ANA  (CBSLA.com)   —  Authorities said a car thief got more than he or she bargained for Friday in Santa Ana after taking a vehicle that happened to have a sleeping baby in the backseat.

Just before noon, a man reported that his car was stolen from the 2500 block of South Main Street in Santa Ana. The victim advised officers that his sleeping son -- a 7-month-old -- was also in the car.

The man said he dashed into a store -- and left his keys in the ignition.

Officers immediately started an area check with the assistance of Anaheim Police Department Air Support.

At 12:11 pm, a patrol officer who was searching surrounding neighborhoods located the vehicle abandoned in the 2500 block of South Evergreen. The baby was found inside the vehicle asleep but sweating.

The Officer removed the child from the vehicle and placed him in a patrol car with the air conditioning running. The Orange County Fire Authority was called and evaluated the child who was found to be unharmed.

Authorities do not have a suspect description.

Anyone with information is asked to called Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS
