Cancer Survivor's Facebook Photo Serves As Inspiration

PLACENTIA (CBSLA.com) – A woman who had a double mastectomy because of breast cancer has become an inspiration on a social media.

Mindy Mitchell, 30, completed months of treatments and radiation three days ago.

She posted on Facebook a photo of her bare chest after a double mastectomy, along with her radiation burns and other scars from her cancer treatments.

Her picture generated outpouring of support from tens of thousands of people, who praised her for being brave.

"I don't like to say survivor. I like to say warrior," Mitchell said. "I felt like, hey, I think women should know what it looks like. It's not that scary."

Mitchell's Facebook page is like a diary of the past 11 months. Last November, at 29, she was diagnosed with a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer.

"My 30th birthday was horrible. But I'm going to redo it this year," she said. "Life, you can't do anything about it. This God's plan, not mine."

She smiled as she said: "Cancer is gone, cancer free, yeah."

Mitchell knows the cancer might someday return, but she will not let that worry her.

"I coach my niece's softball team. I am just living for today."
