Facebook Tests New Shopping Section In Mobile App

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — If you already think that Facebook is taking up too much of your time, brace yourself for what's coming.

The social media giant announced Monday that it will be adding a shopping section in the next few weeks to its mobile app, that will act as a "single place for people to more easily discover, share, and purchase products."

Facebook says it's going to be testing out this new feature because "people are coming to our platform not only to connect with friends and family but also with products and brands. In fact, a survey suggested that nearly half of people come to Facebook to actively look for products, with a majority of them discovering new products in News Feed, Pages, and Groups."

The shopping section is going to let people purchase products they read about without having to leave the Facebook site, the company said. It's also going to include a seamless look in keeping with Facebook's aesthetic.

Facebook also says users will notice product pages will download considerably faster than they have in the past, when users were sent off-site.

No doubt, there are thousands upon thousands of businesses in Southern California that seek to benefit from this feature.
