Dog Burned In Acid Attack Finds New Loving Home

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  A dog burned badly in an acid attack two months ago was adopted Saturday and will find himself in a new and loving forever home.

Angell and Victor Benoun are amazed that Fergus is such a happy and content boy.

"He's loving, he's sweet, he's amazing," said Victor.

The young Golden Retriever is clearly resilient.

Just two months ago, Fergus was found in Lancaster with severe burns up and down his back.

Fergus is one of several dogs who have been found in LA County recently burned with some type of chemical.

These days, there are no signs of any burns on Fergus.It's hard to believe it's the same dog.

Fergus was one of hundreds of dogs available for adoption Saturday in a "Strut Your Mutt" fundraising event staged by the Best Friends Animal Society of Los Angeles.

While Fergus is no mutt, the Benouns were more than happy to add him to the family. They know why he fit in so easily.

"Our Golden, Sammy, passed away three weeks after we heard what about that happened to Fergus," says Angel, "and I really believe he was meant to take Sammy's place. I think Sammy sent him to us."

CBS2's Elsa Ramon said it best. Animal lovers ask themselves during the adoption process -- who really rescued who?

"He's going to have the best life forever," said Angel.

There is a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the acid attacks on the dogs.
