Escondido Man Arrested After Fire Erupts In Motel Room

ESCONDIDO (CBSLA.com) — A 33-year-old man was arrested on Friday after a fire erupted in his motel room.

Around midnight, officers were flagged down in the 700 block of North Broadway Avenue regarding a fire located in a room at the Hacienda Motel, according to the Escondido Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located two rooms fully engulfed in flames.

The motel was subsequently evacuated and firefighters were called to extinguish the blaze.

Two rooms were lost in the fire. Several additional units sustained smoke and water damage.

According to police, Treasure Rosemary Pluma, of Escondido, was arrested after he was found to be under the influence of drugs.

Detectives are seeking help to identify an unknown man who was seen by witnesses inside the motel room trying to extinguish the fire.

At this time, no description of the suspect has been provided.

The estimated damage to the motel has yet to be determined.

Arson investigators have determined the fire to be suspicious in nature.

The investigation is ongoing.
