TARZANA (CBSLA.com) — A 26-year old woman has been arrested after striking and killing her mother-in-law with a baseball bat, police said.

An argument between the victim and the suspect broke out on the front lawn of the victim's home on the 18000 block of Victory Boulevard around 11 a.m. Saturday, according to Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Brian Reynolds.

The suspect, who was identified as Cecelia Sharkey, fled after hitting her mother-in-law in the head with a bat, police said.

Sharkey was arrested later that evening without incident.

She was charged with suspicion of murder and is being held on $1 million bail.

The unidentified victim was in her 50s and was taken to a hospital but pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.
