Dozens Affected By Water Main Break In Sherman Oaks

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com) — Dozens of people are still without water tonight following a water main break in Sherman Oaks.

Traffic continues to be disrupted along Ventura Blvd at Dixie Canyon.

The water main was reported as broken at 4 p.m. and crews were on-scene at 4:30 p.m.

Water erupted over the sidewalk forcing businesses to stuff towels under their doors to prevent water from entering.

At least 25 businesses and residents were affected.

The DWP has reported that the water is off at this time, and it could be until 12:00 p.m. on Sunday until westbound lanes  on Ventura Blvd. are open again.

Officials have not yet identified the broken pipe, and crews are waiting for other utilities to tell them where it is OK and not OK to dig.

DWP officials do not know the cause of the break, but they say the pipe in question is over 40 years old.

The damage to the buildings along Ventura Blvd was minimal.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
