Human Infected With West Nile Virus In Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com) — A human infection of West Nile virus was reported Friday to Garden Grove officials, Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District officials said.

Besides the human infection, 11 mosquito traps set by the agency in Garden Grove had mosquitos infected with West Nile Virus, vector control officials said.

Signs will be posted at all Garden Grove parks Friday to warn the public of mosquitos infected with West Nile virus being found in the location, along with precautions to avoid being infected. Similar signs will also be posted in Fullerton, La Habra, Yorba Linda and Anaheim.

Vector control officials recommend wearing repellent containing DEET, Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus or IR 3535 while outside to avoid being infected. Residents should also eliminate standing water around the house, make sure all window and door screens are in good condition and contact the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District to report dead birds or neglected pools.
