Facebook Finally Caving In And Creating A 'Dislike' Button

(CBSLA.com) — Facebook has changed its stance on creating a "dislike" button, several news sites reported.

"I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we're working on it and shipping it," CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed during a Q&A session streamed live on the social media site Tuesday.

The up-voting and down-voting system is a signature feature of online news forum Reddit, but Facebook only offers users the option of "liking" a post, commenting on it or sharing it with followers with their own caption.

As recently as December, Zuckerberg dismissed the idea of a dislike button, saying he didn't want to encourage users to express negativity towards other users.

But not all stories shared on Facebook are positive and many users have expressed frustration that all they're offered is the "like" button.

It's unclear when the company will roll out this feature or what triggered their change of mind, but Zuckerberg conceded: "What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment."
