Marina Del Rey Security Guard Sentenced To Life For Murdering Co-Worker

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)
  —  A former security guard at an upscale Marina del Rey apartment complex was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for the special circumstance murder of a fellow security guard.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced that Byron Keith Street, 48, of Inglewood was convicted by a jury of one count each of murder with a special circumstance allegation of murder during the course of a burglary; first-degree residential burglary; false impersonation; counterfeit seal; and three counts of vandalism over $400 damage.

Street is not eligible for parole.

Street's ex-girlfriend, Ann Una Bailey, 25, was also charged. Deputy DA Keri Modder said Bailey pleaded no contest in September 2014 to one count of knowledge of crime after the fact and was sentenced to 36 months of formal probation.

The defendant was a former security guard at Shores apartment complex on the 4200 block of Via Marina Drive. According to evidence at trial, Street fatally shot Patrick Odoi-Kyene, 47, on Dec. 30, 2013.

The day before the shooting, Street had been suspended after Odoi-Kyene reported that Street had brought Bailey to work.

Street vandalized the victim's car and scratched the words "Patrick must go" on a car parked next to it, according to evidence presented at trial.

The DA said that Street used false ID to secure the security guard job.
