Driver Arrested On Suspicion Of DUI After Shearing Fire Hydrant In Silver Lake

SILVER LAKE (CBSLA.com) — Crews on Thursday worked to turn water off to a sheared fire hydrant in Silver Lake.

Shortly before 4 a.m., officers were sent to Sunset Boulevard at Lucile Avenue for report of a vehicle that struck a fire hydrant, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a male driver stumbling in the area.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after taking a field sobriety test.

Meanwhile, firefighters were called to assist at the scene.

Firefighters said the water was shooting directly up towards a transformer, which has live wires and presents a major threat and hazard to residents in the area.

Around 6:45 a.m., officials were able to turn water off in the area.

Further information was not immediately available.
