Arroyo High School Science Teacher Accused Of Sex With Female Student

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — A science teacher at Arroyo High School was faces charges Wednesday of having a sexual relationship with a student for the past six months.

Richard Paul Daniels, 55, of Rancho Cucamonga was arrested Tuesday and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, El Monte police said.

Daniels, who is described on Arroyo High School's website as an Earth science instructor, football coach and chair of the science department,  is being held on $1.75 million bail.

An El Monte Police School Resource Officer was notified Tuesday by Arroyo High School Administration of an allegation of inappropriate contact between a female student and a male teacher, police officials said. An investigation determined that over the last six months, the teacher – identified as Richard Paul Daniels – had a sexual relationship with the student, according to police.

The age of the student, who lives in El Monte, was not disclosed.
