CHP Chases Stolen Car Suspect From Van Nuys To Tujunga

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com)  —   The CHP joined the LAPD Saturday evening in a pursuit of a stolen car suspect.

The chase started in Van Nuys and went on the northbound 405 to the southbound 101 and then back north.

The suspect -- in what appears to be a red SUV -- is driving erratically and often exceeding 90 miles per hour., officials said.

The driver pulled off in the Sunland area and collided with another car.

He or she  sustained some front end damage and his/her front end began smoking.

Officials said the suspect apparently lit a cigarette when the chase stopped and also began smoking.

The suspect, or suspects, remained holed up in the car for several minutes.

The chase ended after about a half hour at Gleason Avenue and Apperson Street in Tujunga.

Law enforcement has reportedly fired bean bags into the vehicle to get the suspect to leave the vehicle. After a nearly 45-minute standoff, the unidentified woman got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.
