Police: Child Found Safe After Amber Alert Is Issued; Parents In Custody

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 2-year-old girl who had been the subject of an Amber Alert has been located and her parents were taken into custody without incident.

The alert for Lanees Issa was issued after police allege the toddler was taken at gunpoint by her biological father.

The alert identified the child's noncustodial father as 27-year-old Louai Nayel Issa, a Jordanian national.

He, along with the child's mother, were taken into custody late Wednesday without incident, police said.

Lt. Bob Long of the LAPD said the abduction had occurred around 2 p.m. during a supervised visit at a Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services facility.

"At the end of that meeting, he displayed a handgun and took the child by force from the DCFS worker that had custody of the child," the lieutenant said.

Lt. Long said Issa had been assisted by another man, who had arrived in a silver Honda CRV. It was unclear if that man had also been apprehended.

The lietenant said the child had been taken away from Issa and her mother by DCFS "due to neglect issues at a prior time."

No further information was immediately available.
