Man Suspected Of Sexually Assaulting Girl Evades Police 3 Times Before Surrendering

TEMECULA (CBSLA.com) — A 29-year-old man was in custody Tuesday after fleeing police three times as they tried to arrest him on suspicion of imprisoning and sexually assaulting a minor in Temecula.

Edgar Baca fled the parking lot of Walmart Friday after a female juvenile, determined to be a reported runaway, who was detained for shoplifting told police she was the victim of false imprisonment and sexual assault by her adult boyfriend, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Jon Wade said.

Late Friday night, Baca was recognized in his vehicle in Temecula, at which point he was pursued, but he evaded capture by abandoning his vehicle in Murrieta, Wade said.

Wade said Baca was found again early Monday morning at a Temecula motel. Baca barricaded himself in a room and then escaped into the attic and onto the roof of the motel before fleeing, Wade said.

As a SWAT team was preparing to enter the motel attic, Baca contacted personnel at the Riverside Sheriff's Southwest Detention Center.

Baca surrendered to authorities in Murrieta at about 1 p.m. Monday and was being held without bail on suspicion of assault and sexual assault.

He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday morning, according to jail booking records.
