2 Men Arrested For Attempted Murder Following Standoff In Valinda

VALINDA (CBSLA.com) — Two men were arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder in the assault of their 44-year-old neighbor following the end of an overnight standoff.

A standoff began at about 7 p.m. Monday after a shooting was reported in the 13400 block of Moccasin Street in unincorporated Valinda, sheriff's Deputy Kelvin Moody said.

Luis Segura, 44, was hospitalized and his condition was described as "extremely critical," Moody said.

The barricade ended without injury at 2:45 a.m. 23-year-old Johnathan Macias and 28-year-old Flavio Macias were taken into custody. One of the suspects sustained dog bites and had to be treated for his injuries at a hospital before being booked with the second suspect.

Authorities say Segura's wife became concerned about her husband's whereabouts at about 7 p.m. and stepped outside their home, where she saw two men trying to load Segura into a van. When the suspects saw Segura's wife, they ran away.

When Segura's wife saw that her husband was bleeding from the head from blunt force trauma, she called 911 and told dispatchers she recognized the two suspects as her neighbors.

Deputies responded to the suspect's residence and set up a containment, authorities said. After several hours, tear gas was deployed to flush out the suspects.
