Authorities Investigate Cause Of Sun Valley Restaurant Fire As Possible Arson

SUN VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Authorities on Monday investigated the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a Mexican restaurant in Sun Valley.

According to the Los Angeles City Fire Department, crews were sent to Rocio's Mole de los Dioses restaurant, located on Sunland Boulevard near San Fernando Road.

Upon their arrival, firefighters learned someone lit magazines on fire and used them to torch the restaurant.

The blaze destroyed the kitchen, which subsequently caused the roof to collapse.

According to one employee, the restaurant had been burglarized several times before the fire occurred.

Officials believe the cause of the fire may be arson.

The restaurant will remain closed for six months to undergo necessary repairs.

A GoFundMe account is being set up to help offset the repair costs.
